It is not true that people are not good at maths or can’t understand numbers. What is true is that the expectations that both students and teachers have of them at school is often low and later as employees they feel ill equipped to understand and use numerical data which is generated continuously in running a business. This is necessary in monitoring, controlling and strategic planning. Cambridge Management Development has experience in designing a series of practical workshops to build numerical confidence, target particular numerical weaknesses and introduce data handling and data analysis techniques. Using work-related examples is a key element of this skills building experience. This has recently been delivered successfully to a small team in National Grid plc as a one-day programme. New Courses Available Career Management Consultants Ltd (CMC) commissioned from Cambridge Management Development a series of one day programmes to assist businesses in managing large change strategies.

They can be delivered individually or in combinations depending on the issues being addressed. If you are interested in learning more about these programmes please contact Roger Bicknell at CMC Tel 0121 779 1900 or look on www.cmc-careers.com Cambridge Management Development is happy to assist you in your programme planning or by designing a series of products for use in your business. Training the trainers to deliver these programmes is also available once the programme is written to allow in-house use in the future without further expense.
I can't live without...
I love getting things for free and how much better if they then save me money. Well Skype does just that. If you haven't joined in yet and are on broadband go to http://www.skype.com and download this simple bit of software completely free. I bought a desktop microphone for about a tenner, turned up the speakers on my laptop and chose my contact address. The sound is so excellent that it is as if the person I am speaking to is in the room with me. I use it for conferencing where I and up to four others can share a conversation simultaneously from any locations in the world for free. Using Skype file transfer, I am able to share documents for discussion, view photographs, charts, graphs and plans live rather than as email attachments. Feedback is then instantaneous and probing of ideas helps stimulate more complex analysis, which hitherto was the justification for us meeting in the same office. My bottom line savings are therefore not just the cost of the call, but time and expenses spent travelling, and possibly hotel and catering costs as well as personal wear and tear. What a brilliant tool for achieving work/life balance! I am already sharing and discussing articles with associates on a regular basis and have started to experiment with live skype coaching sessions as an improvement on telephone coaching. This must be the start of a very exciting revolution and I am very happy to share this with you.
